Most of my cynicism about 9/11 by dmg (2.00 / 0) #2 Sat May 17, 2008 at 12:45:23 PM EST
Stems from all the propaganda I was fed in the 70s/80s about the imminent nuclear annihilation that awaited me.

It suits the powers that be to have the public in fear of something, so they can be 'protected' from whatever it is, usually by large amounts of government spending, and draconian rules and regulations.

There wasn't much propaganda in that regard by lm (2.00 / 0) #3 Sat May 17, 2008 at 07:15:39 PM EST
Most of the propaganda went in the other direction, directed at getting the public to believe that a full scale nuclear war was survivable while at the same time pursuing a large enough arsenal to ensure that no one would survive.

There is no more degenerate kind of state than that in which the richest are supposed to be the best.
